RTM-Technology Successfully Introduced
Last year C.F. Maier extended its wide range of manufacturing processes for fiber-reinforced plastics. The introduction of the high-pressure-RTM-process now also allows the manufacturing of high-quality carbon fiber-reinforced plastics (CRP). For a long time, those CRPs have been considered as particularly expensive and associated mostly with aerospace technology. By now, also the utility vehicle industry demands lighter and more hardwearing material for the manufacturing of their systems. C.F. Maier accepted this challenge, advanced the RTM-process for the manufacturing of CRP-parts and by doing so, was a pioneer in this field. Many years of development work made it possible to reduce material and conversion costs to a level acceptable for the utility vehicle industry. By providing the manufacturing of parts in series of a few hundred up to several thousands proves to be cost-effective.

C.F. Maier is one of the few companies in Germany which produces components for the util-ity vehicle industry in series. Primarily for this purpose, a 900-m˛- production facility has been constructed on the company's premises in Königsbronn. The tools on which the components can be produced on two tables in alternating operation constitutes the core piece of this new production facility. The maximum component size is 2 x 3 meters and therefore, large enough to manufacture parts such as doors for mobile cranes or rear flaps for coaches.
